New Delhi, August 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi following his remarks mocking the central government’s foreign policy and comments about Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Union Health Minister JP Nadda criticized Gandhi, stating that it is unfortunate for the country’s democracy to witness such a leader from the opposition.
In a post on the social media platform X, Health Minister JP Nadda wrote, “It is unfortunate for the country’s democracy to see such a leader from the opposition. For Congress, it must be a matter of shame to have to accept Rahul Gandhi as their leader.”
BJP MP Anurag Thakur also weighed in on the issue, stating, “Differences and disagreements are part of politics, but Rahul Gandhi’s language raises questions about his upbringing and values. Coming from a family whose women have held the highest positions in the country, his disrespectful comments about a female head of state reflect his mindset.”
MP Gopal Thakur added, “Rahul Gandhi’s language is deteriorating day by day. Such language directed at the Prime Minister is unacceptable in any civilized political culture. This is not the language of India; it is a stain on the dignity of Indian politics.”
During a recent event in the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi questioned India’s foreign policy. He mimicked Prime Minister Modi, stating that embracing other leaders is not foreign policy. In a moment of levity, when Gandhi embraced Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, he mentioned Prime Minister Meloni’s name in response.
In response to Gandhi’s embrace, Sandeep Dikshit remarked, “Meloni didn’t understand it either.” Rahul Gandhi later commented on this exchange.
