BJP and Shiv Sena Respond to Congress Leaders Comments on Tipu Sultan
Maharashtras political tensions rise as BJP and Shiv Sena challenge Congress leaders remarks on Tipu Sultans legacy.

New Delhi, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions in Maharashtra have escalated following comments made by Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar regarding Tipu Sultan. During a protest in Malegaon, slogans supporting the 18th-century ruler were chanted, prompting a backlash from BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leaders.
Wadettiwar defended Tipu Sultan, questioning whether he was a traitor and asserting that his historical portrayal has been skewed. He argued that rulers of that era, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, were not traitors and emphasized that those who believe in democracy should not be labeled as anti-national for expressing their views.
In response, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC declared, “Tipu Sultan is not a freedom fighter; he was a villain who caused destruction in India and committed atrocities against women.” She criticized the Congress Party for depicting him as a colonial-era leader and capable administrator, stating that those who engage in religious persecution act out of self-interest.
BJP leader Parinay Fuke added that the protests in Malegaon were linked to the removal of Muslim Rohingyas from the voter list during the SIR. He suggested that the movement aimed to create chaos and tarnish the country’s image. Fuke also urged Wadettiwar to educate himself on history, citing the number of Hindus killed by Tipu Sultan as documented.
He further compared Wadettiwar’s actions to those of Rahul Gandhi, claiming both are attempting to instigate unrest in the country.
