BJP Alliance Dominates Kushinagar in 2022 Assembly Elections

In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP alliance swept six out of seven seats in Kushinagar, marking a significant political shift.

Kushinagar, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : In the politically significant district of Kushinagar, the BJP alliance showcased a remarkable performance during the 2022 assembly elections. Out of seven assembly seats in the district, the BJP secured six, while its ally, the Nishad Party, won one, effectively sidelining the opposition.

The most notable contest occurred in the Tamkuhi Raj assembly seat, where Congress’s then-state president, Ajay Kumar Lallu, faced a crushing defeat. BJP candidate Dr. Aseem Kumar triumphed with 115,123 votes, defeating Samajwadi Party’s Uday Narayan, who garnered 48,651 votes. Lallu finished third with 33,496 votes, losing to Dr. Kumar by a substantial margin of 66,472 votes.

In the Khadda assembly seat, the Nishad Party’s Vivekanand Pandey emerged victorious with 88,291 votes. Independent candidate Vijay Pratap Kushwaha followed with 46,840 votes, while Subhaspa’s Ashok Chauhan came in third with 21,126 votes, marking a victory margin of 41,451 votes for Pandey.

The BJP’s influence was evident across other seats as well. Manish Jaiswal won the Padrauna seat by a margin of 42,008 votes. In Fazilnagar, BJP’s Surendra Kumar Kushwaha defeated Samajwadi Party’s Swami Prasad Maurya by a margin of 45,014 votes.

Panchanand Pathak secured a win from the Kushinagar Sadar seat with a margin of 34,790 votes, while Mohan Verma achieved a significant victory in Hata, winning by 59,365 votes. The BJP’s Vinay Prakash Gond recorded a historic win in the reserved Ramkola seat with a margin of 72,543 votes, one of the largest victories in the district.

Kushinagar is politically perceived as a stronghold for the BJP, a sentiment reinforced by the 2022 election outcomes. However, various caste equations have historically influenced electoral results. In Khadda, the Nishad and Kushwaha voters play a crucial role, while in Tamkuhi Raj, Brahmin, Yadav, and Muslim votes are significant. In Fazilnagar and Padrauna, the business community, Brahmins, and other backward classes are influential, whereas in Ramkola, Scheduled Caste and other backward class voters are pivotal in shaping the electoral landscape.

Overall, the 2022 elections marked a highly successful campaign for the BJP alliance in Kushinagar. The defeat of prominent Congress leader Ajay Kumar Lallu in Tamkuhi Raj was particularly noteworthy and became a topic of discussion throughout the state, alongside the defeat of renowned leader Swami Prasad Maurya.
