Patna, August 26: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary launched three significant initiatives on Wednesday to enhance the safety, education, dignity, and self-reliance of the state’s daughters and sisters, just ahead of Raksha Bandhan. The event took place at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, where the Chief Minister inaugurated and flagged off 4,700 scooters and motorcycles for the ‘Police Didi (Abhaya Brigade).’ During the ceremony, female police officers tied rakhi to the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister stated that these two-wheeled vehicles will enable female police officers to more effectively manage safety-related tasks for school and college-going girls and women. He noted that approximately 40,000 female police officers are currently serving in Bihar, showcasing a significant participation of women in the state’s police force. Samrat Chaudhary emphasized that increasing women’s participation will be the hallmark of a prosperous Bihar.
The government’s objective is to empower Bihar’s women to change the state’s destiny through their talent and capabilities, making them key partners in development. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also launched the ‘Chief Minister’s Girl Child PhD Fellowship’ scheme, which will provide financial assistance of ₹10,000 per month to around 1,000 girls for four years. He highlighted that providing better opportunities for daughters in higher education and research is a government priority.
Additionally, the ‘Bihar Ki Beti Startup Challenge’ initiative was introduced, offering financial support ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh to women entrepreneurs to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. This scheme is expected to benefit approximately 2,100 women. The Chief Minister noted that the contribution of Jivika Didis to Bihar’s economy amounts to ₹1.36 lakh crore, with 4.3 million Jivika Didis having become lakhpati (millionaire) Didis. The government aims to create one million more lakhpati Didis in the coming years.
He mentioned that the response time for emergency service 112 has been reduced to under 10 minutes, with a goal to bring it down to five to seven minutes with new arrangements. Efforts to connect women to employment and self-employment will continue in sectors like animal husbandry and dairy production, with a target of engaging one million women in these activities.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that 50% reservation for women has been implemented in panchayats and urban bodies, with nearly 59% of women being elected representatives in Bihar. He concluded that the advancement of women is synonymous with the progress of Bihar. A prosperous Bihar can only be built by ensuring that daughters are safe, educated, and self-reliant.
