Bihar Police Suspend Officers Following Inmates Alleged Suicide in Custody

Katihar, April 4: In a troubling incident in Katihar district, Bihar, two police officers, including the station chief of Falka, have been suspended following the alleged suicide of an inmate in custody.

Reports indicate that a police team arrested Rakesh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Gopalpatty, on Friday night in connection with a robbery case (Falka police case number 36-26). While in custody, Yadav reportedly attempted suicide by hanging himself. The police quickly transported him to a primary health center for treatment, but he was later referred to the Sadar Hospital in Katihar, where he succumbed to his injuries.

In light of this incident, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sadar 2 is conducting an investigation. Given the seriousness of the situation, the Superintendent of Police has taken immediate action to suspend the Falka station chief and the investigating officer, with further actions pending.

Meanwhile, locals expressed their outrage on Saturday, staging a protest outside the police station. Hundreds gathered, chanting slogans against the police administration.

Family members of Yadav claim he was arrested three days prior and allege that police brutally assaulted him while in custody, leading to his deteriorating condition. They assert that internal injuries from the beating ultimately caused his death. The family argues that if he was indeed a criminal, he should have been presented in court rather than subjected to violence that led to his demise.
