Bihar MP Urges Rail Minister for Special Train Service After Vikramshila Bridge Damage

Bhagalpur, May 9: In response to the severe traffic crisis caused by the damage to the Vikramshila Bridge in Bihar’s Kosi-Seemanchal region, Khagaria MP Rajesh Verma has called for immediate government intervention. He has written to Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting the initiation of special train services from Saharsa and Katihar to Bhagalpur.

In his letter, MP Rajesh Verma stated that the Vikramshila Bridge, considered the lifeline of the Kosi-Seemanchal area, was severely damaged late on May 3, leading to a portion of it collapsing into the Ganges River. This incident has disrupted travel for millions and exacerbated the transportation crisis in the region. He noted that a significant number of people relied on this bridge for daily commutes, including students, patients, traders, and professionals from Khagaria, Saharsa, Katihar, Nawgachhia, Purnia, and surrounding districts, who depend on Bhagalpur for education, healthcare, and employment.

The MP also informed the Rail Minister that there are currently no direct train options available from Khagaria, Saharsa, and Katihar to Bhagalpur, further complicating the situation for the public. He emphasized that a swift response from the railway authorities is crucial to alleviate the difficulties faced by the people. He requested that a passenger train and an express train be immediately operated from Saharsa and Katihar Junctions to Bhagalpur via the Khagaria-Munger rail-cum-road bridge. This would provide travelers with a safe and convenient travel option and help meet the region’s daily needs.

He expressed confidence that this decision would not only bring relief to millions of passengers but also boost the economic and social activities in the Kosi-Seemanchal area. The MP is hopeful that the Ministry of Railways will prioritize public interest and make a positive decision soon.

Local residents have welcomed the MP’s initiative, expressing hope that this step will effectively address their issues and lead to timely relief.
