Gopalganj, April 28: Bihar’s Gopalganj district has witnessed a significant legal development involving JDU MLA Amarendra Kumar Pandey, commonly known as Pappu Pandey, and his chartered accountant, Rahul Tiwari. On Tuesday, the Gopalganj District and Sessions Court, presided over by Additional District Judge-3, granted both individuals a crucial reprieve by temporarily halting their arrest.
Following this court order, the concerned parties have received provisional relief, with the next hearing scheduled for May 7. During the proceedings, senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra represented the MLA, while advocate Naresh Dixit appeared for Tiwari at the Patna High Court.
The defense argued that the case was being unnecessarily criminalized, asserting that it is fundamentally a longstanding land dispute based on available facts and documents. After hearing both sides, the court decided to suspend the arrest of both accused until the next hearing.
Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra explained that the case pertains to a land issue in Belwa, Kuchaykot. Following the hearing, the court has prohibited any police action until May 7. A civil suit has also been filed by the complainant, and the case diary is currently under review. Mishra confirmed that the court has effectively halted the arrests for now.
It has been reported that the hearing date of May 7 has also been set for Satish Pandey and the other accused. The entire matter revolves around land disputes. The Gopalganj police had issued a non-bailable warrant against MLA Amarendra Kumar, his notorious brother Satish Pandey, and their close associate Rahul Tiwari.
The police have been actively conducting raids in pursuit of the MLA. A case has been registered against him in Belwa village, alleging that he, along with land mafias, has been involved in land grabbing and providing protection to those engaged in such activities.
