Patna, February 3: The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is set to present its first full budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Tuesday. Finance Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav will outline the state’s income and expenditure in the legislative assembly.
Minister Dilip Jaiswal spoke to a news agency, stating, “The Bihar government will unveil a budget with a vision for the state’s development over the next 20 years, and this time, the budget size will be larger. Special provisions have been made to enhance women’s economic participation, focusing on making them self-reliant. Significant allocations have been made for infrastructure and connectivity, including roads, air travel, and railways.”
He added that there will be substantial provisions for skill development. Currently, many individuals pursue degrees like BA and MA only to face unemployment afterward. The budget includes plans to provide skill development training after the 10th grade and establish incubation centers in technical institutes to offer technical training.
Jaiswal emphasized that agro-industries will receive considerable attention in this budget, aiming to improve the livelihoods of farmers.
In terms of education, health, and power projects, the budget includes various provisions. Bihar is emerging as one of the fastest-growing states in the country. The economic survey has also highlighted Bihar’s progress. This budget is being presented with a vision for the next twenty years.
Targeting the opposition, Minister Jaiswal remarked, “During the last elections, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav raised questions about the Election Commission, particularly regarding the SIR, but nothing came of it. However, the trust of Bihar’s population of over 140 million, including more than 70 million voters, in the transparency of the Election Commission remains strong.”
