Bhadrasan: The Ultimate Remedy for Modern Lifestyle Fatigue

New Delhi, May 21: In today’s fast-paced world, prolonged sitting and unhealthy lifestyles can gradually deteriorate our physical and mental well-being. Bhadrasan, an effective yoga posture, strengthens the legs and lower back while promoting mental calmness and enhancing concentration.

This pose is considered a variation of the butterfly pose, known for its benefits in achieving mental stability and focus. The Ministry of AYUSH in India has also acknowledged the advantages of Bhadrasan. According to the ministry, this pose primarily aids in strengthening and increasing the flexibility of the pelvic area, thighs, and lower back.

To practice Bhadrasan, sit with your legs extended straight in front of you, keeping your back and spine straight. Place your palms on the ground beside your hips. Bring the soles of your feet together. Inhale deeply and grasp your toes with your hands. Then, while inhaling, draw your heels as close to your pelvic area as possible. Hold this position for 10 to 30 seconds while maintaining normal breathing.

While this pose is relatively easy to perform, beginners should not exert too much effort initially and should gradually increase their practice. Individuals suffering from arthritis or severe knee pain should avoid this pose. Pregnant women are advised to consult a yoga instructor before attempting it.

Bhadrasan is particularly beneficial for women. Yoga experts believe that regular practice can alleviate menstrual pain and discomfort. Additionally, under expert supervision, it can also be advantageous during pregnancy.

Patients with severe arthritis or sciatica should refrain from practicing this pose. Pregnant women and those with significant pain in the knees or ankles should also avoid it.
