Bengaluru-Mumbai Express Launches, Strengthening Connectivity Between Karnataka and Maharashtra

New Delhi, May 17: The inaugural journey of the Bengaluru-Mumbai Express commenced on Sunday, enhancing connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra. This new service aims to facilitate travel for business, education, tourism, and employment opportunities.

The express train will significantly improve rail connectivity for passengers traveling between Bengaluru, the Hubli-Dharwad region, Belagavi, Pune, and Mumbai. The South Western Railway (SWR) zone will oversee its operation and maintenance.

Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Chief Public Relations Officer of SWR, stated that this new train service will greatly benefit travelers between Bengaluru, North Karnataka, and the Mumbai region for various purposes. It will also enhance rail connectivity to important commercial and cultural hubs along the route.

The Bengaluru-Mumbai Express will operate as train numbers 16553/16554. On Sunday, it was launched with a special one-way service as train number 06557 between the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai.

Covering a distance of 1,210 kilometers, the express train will complete its journey in 24 hours and 5 minutes. Regular services will commence from Bengaluru on May 23, with services from Mumbai starting on May 24.

The new SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express will stop at 15 stations, including Tumakuru, Davangere, SSS Hubli, Dharwad, Belagavi, Miraj, Sangli, Karad, Satara, Lonand, Pune, Lonavala, Karjat, Kalyan, and Thane.

The express train will run twice a week. It will feature one AC 2-tier coach, four AC 3-tier coaches, six sleeper coaches, four general second-class coaches, a special coach for differently-abled passengers, and one luggage-cum-generator car, totaling 17 LHB coaches.

For travel on train number 16553 SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, the ticket fares are set at ₹750 for sleeper class, ₹1,880 for AC 3-tier, and ₹2,575 for AC 2-tier.

Train number 16553 will depart from SMVT Bengaluru every Saturday and Tuesday at 8:35 PM, arriving at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Sunday and Wednesday at 8:40 PM.

In the return direction, train number 16554 will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus every Sunday and Wednesday at 11:15 PM, reaching SMVT Bengaluru on Monday and Thursday at 10:30 PM.
