Washington, March 21 : China’s ambassador to the US Qin Gang has rejected that Beijing has provided military assistance to Russia amid Ukraine war and said Beijing responded to the war by calling for a ceasefire, promoting peace talks and sending humanitarian aid. CBS News quoted Qin as saying, “On Friday, President Xi Jinping and President Biden had a video call. It was candid, deep and constructive. President Xi gave China’s position very clear, that is China stands for peace, opposes war. Refuting accusations that China is sending military assistance to Russia on Sunday, he said, “There’s disinformation about China providing military assistance to Russia. We reject that. What China is doing is sending food, medicine, sleeping bags and the baby formula.” He further said, “We hate to see the situation over Ukraine come to today’s, like this, and we call for immediate ceasefire, and we are promoting peace talks, and we are sending humanitarian assistance.” The ambassador pointed out that China’s trusted relations with Russia is not a liability and this will be an “asset in the international efforts to solve the crisis in a peaceful way”. “China upholds the UN Charter purposes and principles, including respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine. On the other hand, we do see there’s a complexity in the history of the Ukraine issue,” he added. On Friday, US President Joe Biden warned his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping of “implications and consequences” if Beijing provides material support to Russia amid its attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians. In reply, Xi said, “All sides need to jointly support Russia and Ukraine in having dialogue and negotiation that will produce results and lead to peace. China is a peace-loving country.” RNJ
