
Bareilly, August 13: Bareilly police have apprehended a fugitive accused of raping a minor following an encounter. During the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was shot in the left leg. Authorities recovered a .315 bore pistol and two cartridges from the suspect.
Nawabganj Circle Officer Nilesh Mishra reported that on the evening of August 12, police received information about the wanted suspect being spotted in the area. When the police team attempted to encircle him, the accused opened fire. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring the suspect in the leg, leading to his capture at the scene. He has since been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
During interrogation, the suspect identified himself as Vimlesh Kumar, a resident of Pandri village near Barour in the Nawabganj police jurisdiction.
The Circle Officer stated that during questioning, Vimlesh confessed to the recent rape of a minor in the area, revealing that he committed the crime in collaboration with an accomplice. Police are now actively searching for this absconding partner.
According to police records, Vimlesh Kumar has a criminal history, with previous charges of harassment against him. He is known in the area for his criminal tendencies.
Authorities have assured that no guilty party will be spared, and strict legal action will be taken. Efforts to apprehend the second suspect are already underway.
