Bangladesh Triumphs Over New Zealand by 55 Runs in Third ODI

Chattogram, April 23: Bangladesh showcased an impressive performance on Thursday, defeating New Zealand by 55 runs in the third ODI match. Played at the Birsreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Bangladesh set a target of 266 runs. New Zealand’s entire team was bowled out for 210 runs in just 44.5 overs. With this victory, Bangladesh clinched the ODI series 2-1.

New Zealand’s chase got off to a rocky start. Henry Nicholls fell for just 4 runs, becoming a victim of Mustafizur Rahman. Will Young also struggled, scoring only 19 runs before being dismissed by Naheed Rana. Captain Tom Latham continued his disappointing form, managing only 5 runs. Muhammad Abbas contributed 25 runs, but New Zealand found themselves in trouble at 61 for 3. Abbas and Nick Kelly steadied the innings, adding 47 runs for the fourth wicket.

Nick Kelly played a commendable innings, scoring 59 runs off 80 balls. Dean Foxcroft also made a strong contribution with 75 runs off 72 balls, but lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup. Nathan Smith was dismissed for just 2 runs. On the bowling front, Mustafizur Rahman was the standout for Bangladesh, claiming 5 wickets for 43 runs in 9 overs. Naheed Rana and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz each took two wickets.

Earlier, Bangladesh scored 265 runs after losing 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the star with the bat, scoring a century. He faced 119 balls, hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes to finish with 105 runs. Liton Das contributed 76 runs off 91 balls, while Towhid Hridoy added an unbeaten 33 runs off 29 balls. Mehidy Hasan chipped in with 22 runs from 18 balls. For New Zealand, William O’Rourke was the leading wicket-taker with 3 wickets, while Ben Lister and Jaden Lennox took 2 wickets each.
