Dubai, May 20: Bangladesh has made a significant leap in the World Test Championship (WTC) rankings following their 78-run victory over Pakistan in the second Test held in Sylhet. This win secured the series 2-0 for Bangladesh, allowing them to surpass India in the rankings.
With this victory on Wednesday, Bangladesh climbed to fifth place in the WTC (2025-27) standings, pushing India down to sixth. Pakistan now sits in eighth place.
India has not played a Test match since last year. Their next match will be against Afghanistan, which is not part of the WTC.
Currently, Australia leads the rankings with seven wins out of eight Tests, followed by New Zealand with two wins from three Tests, and South Africa with three wins from four Tests. Sri Lanka is in fourth place with one win from two Tests, while Bangladesh holds fifth with two wins from four Tests. India is sixth with four wins from nine Tests, England seventh with three wins from ten Tests, Pakistan eighth with one win from four Tests, and the West Indies in ninth without any wins from eight Tests.
In the match, Bangladesh batted first, scoring 278 runs. Pakistan was bowled out for 232 in their first innings, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead. In their second innings, Bangladesh scored 390 runs, setting Pakistan a target of 437 runs. Pakistan was ultimately dismissed for 358 runs, losing the match by 78 runs.
Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das was named Player of the Match, scoring 126 runs in the first innings and 69 in the second. Experienced wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim was awarded Player of the Series for his impressive total of 253 runs across the two-match series.
