Bandra East Railway Station Redevelopment: 85% of Encroachment Removal Completed, 1,200 Workers Deployed

Mumbai, May 21: The redevelopment of the Bandra East Railway Station area in Mumbai is progressing rapidly, with 85% of the encroachment removal work now completed. According to railway officials, the pace of the operation has increased due to overnight efforts.

Approximately 1,200 workers have been deployed for this campaign. A minor incident of stone-pelting occurred during the demolition of a religious structure on Wednesday, prompting police to resort to a baton charge. However, the situation is now under control, and the railway authorities have confirmed that no other religious structures remain in the area.

Railway officials stated that the goal is to remove a total of 500 illegal constructions, most of which have already been demolished. Some occupants are still resisting leaving the premises, but the administration is actively working on the legal process to remove them.

Once the redevelopment work is completed on this crucial 1.31-acre (approximately 5,300 square meters) site, modern railway station facilities will be developed. The estimated value of this land is reported to exceed ₹600 crores.

The railway estimates that there are still two days of work remaining in this campaign. Demolition efforts will continue with the same intensity today. Security measures have been tightened throughout the area to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Bandra East Station redevelopment project is considered a significant step towards modernizing Mumbai’s railway infrastructure. Upon completion, the station area will see improved passenger facilities, parking, foot overbridges, and increased commercial development opportunities.

Local authorities and the railway have appealed to residents to cooperate with the legal process and refrain from constructing any illegal structures. The railway has assured that the redevelopment work is being carried out strictly in accordance with court orders and legal procedures.
