New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : In recent years, people have become increasingly aware of their dietary choices. Questions about what to eat, the types of food that should be part of our daily routine, and how to view traditional diets have gained traction. Understanding the concept of an Ayurveda diet has become essential.
The AYUSH Ministry recently shared insights on the social media platform X, explaining that an Ayurveda diet is rooted in the principles of Ayurveda and traditional knowledge. To fully grasp this concept, one must look beyond just the food itself; it is also crucial to understand our traditions and established dietary norms.
A regulatory framework for Ayurveda diets has been established under the Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Diet) Regulations, 2022. This framework includes a Category A provision aimed at organizing the production of Ayurveda foods and the related information within a responsible structure.
Three key components are vital for understanding Ayurveda diets: food, tradition, and standards.
The first component is food, which directly refers to what we consume and drink. Everything included in our daily meals is part of our dietary system. In Ayurveda, food is not merely seen as a means to satisfy hunger; it is also regarded as essential for overall lifestyle and well-being.
The second component is tradition. In India, knowledge and methods related to food have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. Different regions exhibit various cooking and eating practices based on local climate, availability, and traditional wisdom. This generational knowledge plays a crucial role in understanding Ayurveda diets.
The third component is standards. Clear rules and responsible systems are necessary to ensure the accurate production of food items and the dissemination of information about them. Standards form the foundation of this system, helping to maintain the integrity of food production and related information within a defined framework.
