Australia shows interest in Kerala’s education sector

Thiruvananthapuram/Kochi, Mar 4 : Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’ Farrell on Friday called on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and discussed about collaboration in the education sector. Barry O’ Farrell, who is also Ambassador to Bhutan, tweeted that and “We discussed our shared interests in #MaritimeSecurity and opport ties for Australia-Kerala collaboration in the #education, skills development, energy and infrastructure sectors. #Kerala https://t.co/xws9qDFeN1.” The Chief Minister also tweeted that “Had a fruitful interaction with @AusHCIndia Mr. Barry O’ Farrell. Discussed the possibilities in Kerala’s industry and tourism. Invited investors from Australia and sought cooperation in our efforts to set up Centres of Excellence and in upgrading our youngsters’ skills. https://t.co/SRmdTisEqJ.” The Australian officials met the Chief Minister in Kochi where he is attending the state conference of Kerala CPI(M). Meanwhile, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday clarified his party’s stand on policy changes and investment proposals in Kerala’s education sector. He opined that the state’s higher education must be modernised as the State Government can’t block private investment coming to the education sector.
