
Nanded, August 13: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sought information regarding the attack on former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, which occurred in Nanded. The Chief Minister has directed the police to investigate the motives behind the attack and conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident.
Nanded’s Superintendent of Police, Rohan Neelabh, reported that the attack was carried out by a Nihang named Jaspal Singh. The suspect has been arrested immediately. According to police, Jaspal Singh has been working at the Gurudwara for nearly two years. The exact reason for the attack remains unclear, and the police are currently investigating.
The SP explained that Jaspal Singh attacked Sukhbir Singh Badal with a kirpan he had in his possession. At the time of the incident, Harsimrat Kaur was also present. The police are gathering information about the circumstances of the attack and the motive of the accused.
After receiving updates on the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the swift arrest of the assailant. He instructed the police to conduct a detailed investigation into the purpose behind the attack. The Chief Minister also stated that Sukhbir Singh Badal is in stable condition.
The attack occurred around 11 AM on Thursday near the Mata Sahib Gurudwara within the Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Sahib complex. Following the incident, Sukhbir Singh Badal was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Initial reports indicate that he sustained injuries to his hand and other parts of his body.
During the attack, Inspector Santosh Kendre, who was part of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s special security detail, was also injured. Security personnel quickly apprehended the assailant.
The police are now working to determine the reasons behind the attack and whether there was any underlying motive or conspiracy. They are interrogating the suspect and examining all aspects related to the incident.
Before the attack, Sukhbir Singh Badal had shared on the social media platform X that he prayed for the well-being of everyone while bowing his head with family at Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Sahib. He wrote, “I bowed my head at Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Sahib with my family and prayed for everyone’s welfare. May Guru Sahib shower his grace upon the entire world.”
