
Thiruvananthapuram, April 4: In a concerning incident in Malappuram district, police have taken decisive action following an attack on a member of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s security team. Authorities arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.
Reports indicate that Tharoor’s convoy was obstructed by a group of assailants in Wandur. An FIR has been registered, and the suspects were apprehended shortly thereafter.
Earlier, Tharoor expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “I am truly touched by the concern expressed in your messages and calls regarding the unfortunate incident last night, where my security guard was attacked. He is now fine, and I am completely safe. Thank you to all my friends and well-wishers. We continued our schedule without fear and completed two more events as planned, with no interruptions.”
According to police, the incident occurred near the Chelithode Bridge in the Thiruwali area around 7:30 PM on Friday. Tharoor was en route to a campaign event for Congress leader A.P. Anil Kumar when his vehicle was halted. A video from the scene shows the senior Congress leader seated in the front of his vehicle, surrounded by a crowd, some of whom were chanting slogans.
Based on the complaint from Tharoor’s security personnel, Wandur police registered the case, detained the suspects, and seized two vehicles used in the incident. The FIR was filed at Wandur police station following a report by Tharoor’s gunman, Ratheesh K.P.
