Guwahati, June 18: The Assam government is ramping up preparations for the annual Ambubachi Mela at the revered Kamakhya Temple, located in the Nilachal Hills. This spiritual event is expected to attract over 800,000 pilgrims over its four-day duration.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended a warm invitation to devotees from India and abroad to participate in one of Eastern India’s largest religious gatherings, the Ambubachi Mahayog 2026.
In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister stated that the Kamakhya Temple is adorned and ready to welcome pilgrims from around the world. He encouraged devotees to be part of this unique blend of spirituality and nature.
Authorities have made extensive arrangements, including special shelter camps and improved crowd management measures. Three major camps have been established for pilgrims at the Kamakhya Railway Station and the banks of the Pandu River, while a separate camp for police and security personnel has been set up in Nahabati.
The government announced that the main route to the temple will be open for pilgrims from 5 AM to 6 PM, ensuring smooth access and controlled entry.
The Ambubachi Mahayog symbolizes the annual menstrual cycle of Goddess Kamakhya and is regarded as one of the most significant tantric festivals in the country.
During this period, the temple remains closed for three days and is reopened for devotees following special rituals. The event draws saints, sadhus, tantric practitioners, and pilgrims from both India and abroad.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the festival, security arrangements, sanitation facilities, health services, and transportation management have been strengthened. The Nilachal Hills are expected to transform into a vibrant center of faith and devotion, where millions will come to seek blessings at this historic Shakti Peeth.
