
Guwahati, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Assam Cabinet convened on October 9 in Guwahati to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service by passing 75 proposals. These proposals highlight advancements in infrastructure, connectivity, industrial investment, healthcare, education, and security within the state and the broader northeastern region.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a special 90-minute cabinet meeting dedicated to Modi’s tenure, which spans his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat and his years as Prime Minister. Following the meeting, Sarma addressed the media, emphasizing that improvements in security, connectivity, and investment have created favorable conditions for Assam’s economic and social transformation. He noted that peace has fostered development, enhanced connectivity has opened doors to opportunities, and industrial investment has created new economic prospects, while advancements in healthcare and education have strengthened human capabilities.
According to Sarma, the proposals acknowledge the economic potential, physical infrastructure, strategic importance, and social development changes that have occurred during Modi’s time in office. He stated that Assam is emerging as a peaceful and investment-ready state, reinforcing its position as the gateway to the northeastern region and as a significant contributor to the national vision of a “Developed India.”
The proposals spotlight key infrastructure projects, including a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Jagiroad, an ₹28,000 crore expansion of the Numaligarh Refinery, and a proposed twin-tube road tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh, with an estimated cost of ₹18,662 crore. Other notable projects include the Guwahati Ring Road, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, and the Silchar-Saurashtra high-speed corridor.
The cabinet also highlighted the proposed Namrup-Chaturth ammonia-urea complex, a bamboo-based second-generation bioethanol plant in Numaligarh, and a 718-kilometer natural gas pipeline from Baroni to Guwahati. The “Advantage Assam 2.0” investment summit was also mentioned in the proposals.
Additionally, the document referenced peace agreements between Bodo, Karbi, tribal groups, and the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), which are seen as vital to resolving long-standing conflicts. It also noted developments in healthcare and educational institutions, including AIIMS Guwahati and IIM Guwahati, as well as the designation of Charaideo Moidam as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the granting of classical language status to Assamese in 2024.
The proposals also acknowledged Modi’s 36 visits to Assam since he assumed the office of Prime Minister.
