Arunachal Guv hopeful of amicable solution of Assam-Arunachal boundary issues

Itanagar, Mar 4 : Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Friday exuded his optimism that the inter-state boundary issues between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam “will be solved amicably in near future as both the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are working seriously” on the same. He said that (once the boundary matter is solved) it will reinforce the age-old amity amongst the people of both neighbouring states. The Arunachal Pradesh Governor expressed this when he met his Assam counterpart Prof Jagdish Mukhi at the Raj Bhavan, Guwahati and discussed about strengthening the goodwill amongst the people of both the neighbouring states, according to an official comm que here. It may be mentioned that Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while gracing the Golden Jubilee celebration of Arunachal Pradesh and 36th Statehood Day function at Yupia on February 20, had said in the presence of his Arunachal counterpart Pema Khandu that from April onwards, both state governments will get engaged in serious dialogue. “This year, maximum border disputes will be solved,” he had assured. During today’s meeting, the Governors duo also discussed various avenues, where the people of both Arunachal Pradesh and Assam can work together for their mutual benefits. Mishra suggested more cultural and educational exchange programmes for promoting the cultural richness of the region for the youth of the states. They also shared their thoughts on preservation of natural environment, flora and fauna and archaeological assets and at the same time emphasised on expediting the implementation process of developmental projects. During the meeting, the Governor also shared his concern about the Arunachali students stranded in Ukraine. He expressed the hope that as the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working round the clock for their evacuation, they will reach home safely, the comm que said.
