Andhra Pradesh Aims to Set National Fire Department Standard, Says CM Chandrababu Naidu

Amaravati, April 8: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced on Tuesday that the state’s Fire and Disaster Management Department will be developed as a model for other states across the country.

During an event at Parade Ground, he flagged off newly acquired modern fire tenders and equipment.

As part of the modernization initiative, which has seen an investment of ₹252.93 crores, the government introduced new vehicles and equipment valued at ₹33.25 crores.

In the first phase, the state government purchased 25 modern fire tenders for ₹18 crores, 40 quick response vehicles equipped with high-pressure pumps for ₹10 crores, 50 inflatable rubber boats for ₹2.49 crores, and 30 breathing apparatus sets with compressors for ₹2.08 crores.

Addressing the gathering after the flag-off, the Chief Minister emphasized that saving lives should be the top priority. He stated that the fire department must be equipped with modern tools and technology to tackle the new challenges arising from the development of Amaravati as a capital and the construction of high-rise buildings.

He instructed officials to effectively utilize both central government schemes and state funds to strengthen the department, ensuring readiness for all types of emergencies.

Home Minister V. Anita, local MLA Shravan Kumar, Director General of Fire Services P. V. Ramana, Principal Secretary of the Home Department Kumar Vishwajit, and senior police officials attended the event.

Earlier, in a review meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to employ the latest technology to alert citizens about the dangers of lightning strikes. He stressed that alerts should not be limited to mobile messages. Ground-level workers should also be activated to inform people in specific areas about potential lightning threats through network-based alerts.

Discussing road accidents, the Chief Minister suggested that, in addition to strict enforcement of rules, preventive measures should also be implemented. He highlighted the need for greater awareness regarding helmet use and traffic regulations.
