Guwahati, May 21: The ambitious Amrit Bharat Express trains by Indian Railways are emerging as a significant success story in Northeast India. Launched under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), these trains have garnered tremendous support from passengers across various stations in Assam and West Bengal.
According to railway officials, the popularity of these trains is on the rise, with demand for seats exceeding capacity on several routes. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, reported on Wednesday that the Amrit Bharat Express trains have received an overwhelming response from travelers nationwide. He noted that the impressive occupancy rates and revenue clearly indicate that passengers prefer these trains as an affordable, comfortable, and reliable option.
Initiated in January 2026, these services have connected cities like Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Alipurduar Junction, and New Jalpaiguri to several major cities across the country. Railway data shows that many trains have recorded occupancy rates exceeding 100%, reflecting the high demand for these services.
Currently, seven pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains are operational under NFR, including routes such as Kamakhya-Rohtak, Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar, Alipurduar Junction-SMV Bengaluru, Alipurduar Junction-Panvel, Kamakhya-Charlapalli, New Jalpaiguri-Tiruchirappalli, and New Jalpaiguri-Nagercoil.
Railway officials emphasize that these trains play a crucial role in better connecting Northeast India with other parts of the country. Notably, the Kamakhya-Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express has seen such high passenger numbers that its occupancy reached 136%. Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar train recorded occupancy rates exceeding 140% on several trips.
According to railway statistics, these trains have transported over 178,000 passengers and generated revenue exceeding ₹23 crore.
Designed specifically for the common traveler, the Amrit Bharat Express trains feature modern interiors, enhanced amenities, comfortable seating arrangements, and affordable fares.
NFR asserts that these trains not only enhance passenger convenience but also bolster regional development, tourism, and economic activities. The railway has assured that passenger facilities and safe travel will continue to be prioritized in the future.
