Mumbai, April 27: As the second phase of voting in the West Bengal elections approaches, all political parties are ramping up their preparations. Central Home Minister Amit Shah held an election rally in Barasat on Sunday, expressing confidence that the BJP will form a government in the state.
Amit Shah stated, “The Mamata government has completely failed in every region of West Bengal. There is immense anger among the people against her. The public believes that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can resolve all economic issues and problems.”
In the first phase, Shah claimed that the BJP won over 110 out of 152 seats. Regarding the second phase, he remarked, “It’s too early to say anything, but we are set to form a government with a full majority.”
Pointing to the large crowd at the rally, he indicated that it clearly shows whether Barasat is Mamata’s stronghold or not.
Addressing concerns about potential violence in the second phase, Shah said, “I do not believe that goons will take risks by relying on Didi (Mamata Banerjee). She is losing, and no one will support her in the coming times. After the BJP forms the government, the police will deal with the goons.”
The first phase of voting recorded over 90 percent turnout across 152 seats, marking the highest voting percentage for any phase since independence. The BJP sees this as a sign of significant change in the state, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is also claiming a strong return to power.
A large number of party workers and citizens attended Shah’s rally. He accused the TMC government of corruption, appeasement, crime, and lack of development. He assured that a BJP government would usher in a new wave of development in West Bengal, ensure women’s safety, and promote industries.
It is noteworthy that the second phase of voting will take place on April 29 for 142 seats, with results to be announced on May 4.
