Beijing, February 16: From February 15 to 24, an event titled “2026 American Youth Pickleball Cultural Exchange for the Chinese New Year” is taking place.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Education, over 190 young people from China and the United States are participating in inter-school exchanges, pickleball matches, and cultural tours across four cities: Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, Shangrao in Jiangxi Province, Hepi in Hunan Province, and Beijing, the capital of China.
During the ten-day program, teenagers from both countries will visit communities to experience traditional Chinese New Year customs, such as paper cutting and pasting couplets. They will also learn about Hakka cuisine, tea leaf harvesting and processing, and explore picturesque Chinese villages.
Additionally, American and Chinese youth will enjoy Spring Festival fairs in the aforementioned cities, tasting local snacks and enjoying folk performances. This will allow them to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the Chinese New Year.
Beyond these activities, American youth will tour cultural heritage sites like the National Museum of China, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace, where they can appreciate the allure of traditional Chinese culture. Friendly pickleball matches will also be held at the renowned Tsinghua University and other institutions in Beijing, fostering closer ties through sports.
An official from the Ministry of Education’s International Humanities Exchange Center expressed hope that this event will serve as an opportunity to enhance friendship and mutual understanding between Chinese and American youth through pickleball and the cultural traditions of the Spring Festival. It aims to write a new chapter in friendly exchanges between Chinese and foreign youth through the integration of sports and culture.
