Christchurch, April 3 : Alyssa Healy has broken compatriot and former Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist’s record of the highest run-getter in a World Cup final on Sunday. Healy achieved the milestone in the 2022 Women’s World Cup final. The right-hander’s monumental knock of 170 surpassed Gilchrist record (149 in the 2007 Men’s World Cup). Ricky Ponting (140 not out in the 2003 World Cup) and Viv Richards (138 not out in the 1979 World Cup) are at second and third spot. Aravinda De Silva (107 not out in the 1996 World Cup) and Karen Rolton (107 not out in the 2005 World Cup) are jointly sitting in the fifth position. With a total of 509 runs in the 2022 edition, Healy also recorded the most runs in a single Women’s World Cup. Earlier in the day, her teammate Rachael Haynes (497 runs) broke the long-standing record of New Zealand great Debbie Hockley (456 runs in the 1997 World Cup) for the most runs in a World Cup. But out of nowhere, Healy overtook Haynes at the Hagley Oval. The 32-year-old Healy also became the first-ever batter to score back-to-back centuries in the semi-final and final of the same World Cup across men and women. Former Australia great Rolton tweeted, “Well done @ahealy77 on your magnificent 100 in the final of the World Cup, such a fantastic innings.” Cricket commentator and former Australia cricketer Lisa Sthalekar said, “This is ridiculous from @ahealy77!! We are witnessing the best innings ever in a FINAL!! I repeat a @cricketworldcup final!”
