Kolkata, April 29: Allegations of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have emerged during the voting process in the Falta assembly constituency of West Bengal. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims that the button for their party was blocked on the EVM, preventing voters from selecting their preferred candidate. The party has urged the Election Commission to take notice of this incident.
Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT cell, shared several videos on the social media platform ‘X.’ These videos show the button corresponding to the BJP symbol being blocked. The individual filming the videos was seen complaining to election officials. He alleged that voting was affected at polling booth number two in the Harindanga High School and booth-189, among others.
In his post, Malviya stated, “Mamata Banerjee was defending this very thing when she spoke up for Jahangir Khan. At several polling booths, the option to vote for the BJP has been blocked with tape, effectively preventing voters from choosing their preferred candidate.”
The BJP leader further added, “This is the so-called ‘Diamond Harbour model.’ The same method that helped Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, secure his Lok Sabha seat. We demand immediate re-elections at all affected booths in Falta where such incidents occurred.”
It is noteworthy that the BJP has fielded Debanshu Panda as their candidate from the Falta assembly seat, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated Jahangir Khan.
Recently, Jahangir Khan was in the news due to a dispute with Ajay Pal Sharma, the police observer from the Election Commission. Sharma had sternly advised Khan’s family to adhere to the law, stating, “They (TMC candidates) need to improve their behavior, or they will face consequences later.” In response, Jahangir asserted that they are not afraid.
