Akshay Mhatre Reflects on Raksha Bandhan Traditions Learned from His Father

Mumbai, August 26: Actor Akshay Mhatre is currently portraying the character of Girdhar in the show ‘Hamari Radha’ aired on Anmol TV. In a recent interview, he shared his thoughts on the beautiful traditions associated with Raksha Bandhan.

He mentioned that although he does not have a biological sister, he shares a strong bond with several ‘rakhi’ sisters. He learned the importance of these relationships from his father.

Akshay stated, “My father also did not have a biological sister, but during his childhood, some girls from his neighborhood would tie him rakhi. Over time, these relationships became very special for my father. I embraced this beautiful tradition in my life, and today, I celebrate Raksha Bandhan every year with my rakhi sisters. For me, this festival is an opportunity to cherish the significance of relationships and the memories associated with them.”

Discussing the celebrations of Raksha Bandhan, Akshay said, “For me, the bond of rakhi is not just a ritual; it holds great importance in my life. Every year, I try to celebrate this day in a special way. I have a few rakhi sisters, and celebrating this festival with them brings me immense joy. It feels like I am continuing the beautiful tradition that my father started.”

He added, “In the past, my father used to help choose gifts for my rakhi sisters. Now, my wife happily takes on that responsibility. A few years ago, I gifted my rakhi sisters silver jewelry, which they loved. The beauty of Raksha Bandhan lies in the fact that some traditions become special due to love and the memories attached to them.”

This year, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 28. The festival falls on the full moon day of the month of Sawan. On this day, sisters tie rakhi on their brothers’ wrists, and brothers give gifts in return. Both wish each other love and strengthen their bond.
