Lucknow, August 22: Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister, stated on Saturday that the call for ‘reservation reform’ is a conspiracy aimed at the abolition of reservation rights for the PDA community. He emphasized that reservation is a right of the PDA community, not a matter of personal preference.
Yadav criticized the BJP and its allies for frequently using vague terms like ‘review’ and ‘reform’ to oppose reservation. He pointed out that discussions around ‘creamy layer’ and suggestions to ‘give up reservation’ are merely different masks for ongoing attempts to undermine the rights of historically marginalized groups. “Reservation existed, reservation exists, and reservation will continue!” he declared.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh‘s Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak assured students involved in the reservation reform movement that their demands would be effectively presented to the BJP’s central leadership. He mentioned that a delegation of students would meet with the relevant central minister in the next two days.
Pathak clarified that the government is committed to addressing youth issues through dialogue and positive initiatives. During a press conference in Lucknow with student representatives protesting for reservation reform at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, he stated that all student demands have been heard with seriousness and sensitivity. The delegation also submitted a letter that will be forwarded to the central leadership.
In the presence of student leaders Harsh Dubey, Mrityunjay Pathak, Shiva Sharma, and their colleagues, Pathak assured that every possible effort would be made to resolve the students’ legitimate demands. He said, “Our government stands with every youth. We are committed to realizing the dreams of the youth of the country and the state. Effective steps will be taken to bring the students’ voices to the appropriate platform.”
He confirmed that the issues raised by the students would be presented to the central leadership within the next two days, and efforts would be made to ensure a meeting with the relevant central minister.
