
New Delhi, May 5: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met with Vietnam’s President To Lam to discuss enhancing the multifaceted and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
President To Lam arrived in India for a three-day state visit, greeted at the airport by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on social media platform X, “India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Vietnam’s President To Lam. They exchanged views on strengthening the multifaceted and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. To Lam expressed eagerness for his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the upcoming events over the next two days.”
Jaiswal added, “Chao Muong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and President To Lam have arrived in New Delhi for their first state visit to India. They received a warm welcome, with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai leading the reception.”
He further noted that this year marks a milestone, celebrating ten years of the India-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership. This visit is expected to further solidify their multifaceted and robust bilateral relations.
Earlier in the day, President To Lam visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar, where he was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary upon his arrival in Gaya.
To Lam, who is also the General Secretary of Vietnam’s Communist Party, will stay in India until May 7. This marks his first visit to India since being elected President last month.
During the visit, a formal welcome for President To Lam is scheduled at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 6. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage in extensive discussions with President To Lam on various aspects of bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.
President Droupadi Murmu is also expected to meet with him. Other leaders in New Delhi are likely to have discussions with President To Lam as well.
Additionally, President To Lam plans to visit Mumbai, where he will tour the National Stock Exchange and meet with the Chief Minister and Governor of Maharashtra. He is also scheduled to participate in a business forum in Mumbai.
India and Vietnam share historical and cultural ties that have deepened significantly in recent years.
