Airtel and Tata Tele Face Rs 10,000 Crore AGR Dues Deadline

Mumbai, April 1: Bharti Airtel, India’s second-largest telecom operator, along with Tata Teleservices, is required to pay Rs 10,000 crore in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues by March 31, 2026. The government insists that these telecom companies meet the deadline, as failing to do so would constitute contempt of a Supreme Court order.

As reported by ET, Airtel must pay over Rs 5,000 crore towards its AGR dues, while Tata Teleservices is liable for up to Rs 4,000 crore. Notably, Airtel has recently approached the government again seeking relief regarding these dues. However, the government has maintained its previous position of not providing additional assistance to Airtel.

The government’s decision to aid Vodafone Idea (Vi) stemmed from a Supreme Court directive. In contrast, no similar ruling has been issued for Airtel or Tata Teleservices, making it imperative for both companies to settle their AGR dues on time. While Airtel possesses the cash flow and capacity to meet its obligations, the company still seeks relief to ensure equitable treatment across the telecom sector.
