Bhopal, May 19: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal has indicated that the death of Twisha Sharma may be a suicide, based on the report of a belt found at the scene. This information was shared by Assistant Police Commissioner Rajneesh Kashyap on Tuesday.
The belt was seized and sent to AIIMS for forensic analysis. The report has now been received and will be forwarded to the forensic science laboratory for further examination. Kashyap stated that the preliminary report supports the initial findings and includes corroborative evidence.
Twisha’s family has previously accused the authorities of serious negligence in the investigation. They claim that the investigating officer did not present the belt, allegedly used for the hanging, to the doctors during the inquiry. The family argues that this oversight undermines the significance of crucial evidence.
Kashyap acknowledged that the belt was recovered but noted that it was sent for examination to AIIMS Bhopal two days later. Meanwhile, the police have issued a lookout notice for Twisha’s husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, who is currently absconding. Additionally, the police have formally informed the regional passport office to seize his passport.
Twisha Sharma, a 31-year-old former model, was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal on May 12, just five months after her marriage. Eight days after her death, her body remains at AIIMS Bhopal, as her family refuses to proceed with the funeral. They are demanding a second autopsy at AIIMS New Delhi and an investigation by an external agency, citing flaws in the initial autopsy.
On Tuesday, Twisha’s family filed a petition in the Bhopal District Court seeking permission to transfer her body for a second autopsy at AIIMS New Delhi. The court is expected to rule on the family’s request on Wednesday.
