AIADMK MP Calls for Urgent Action Against Rising Crimes Against Minors in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, March 12: AIADMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP IS Inbadurai has urged the National Commission for Women (NCW) to intervene urgently regarding the increasing crimes against minor girls in Tamil Nadu. He described these incidents as alarming.

In a detailed complaint addressed to the NCW chairperson, the MP referenced several recent incidents across the state and demanded immediate action to ensure justice for the victims and accountability from the authorities.

He expressed concern that this situation reflects a serious breakdown in law and order and a failure to protect vulnerable children.

One of the incidents mentioned in the letter involves the murder of a second-grade student in Thoothukudi on March 11. According to the MP, the victim’s parents had approached the police for protection after receiving threats, but their pleas were allegedly ignored.

The MP stated that the lack of action on the complaint may have contributed to the tragic outcome and urged the NCW to investigate the alleged negligence of the police officers involved.

The complaint also highlighted a case reported from Chengalpattu district, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in broad daylight. The MP emphasized that such incidents indicate a growing sense of lawlessness and stressed the need for a swift investigation under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Another case mentioned in the letter involves the alleged sexual assault and death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Krishnagiri. The MP raised concerns that the arrest of a local political figure in this case could lead to attempts to influence or derail the investigation.

In his letter, Inbadurai also pointed to an administrative vacuum within the Tamil Nadu police, noting that the absence of a permanent Director General of Police (DGP) could impact the chain of command and accountability within the force.
