New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The highly anticipated T20 series between India and Afghanistan is set to kick off this Sunday, marking the return of Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Afghanistan’s captain, Ibrahim Zadran, has disclosed that his team has devised specific strategies to counter Bumrah’s bowling prowess.
Bumrah has been sidelined since suffering a left knee injury while fielding during the second ODI against England in Cardiff back in July. He is now ready to make his comeback to international cricket, which will significantly bolster India’s bowling attack. However, Zadran believes that instead of complicating things, his team is keeping their approach straightforward.
In a press conference on Saturday, Zadran praised Bumrah, calling him one of the best bowlers and one of his personal favorites. “As a team, we never overcomplicate things. We have a solid plan for him; we’ve considered how to play against him. Hopefully, we will perform better against Jasprit Bumrah and the Indian cricket team,” he stated.
Zadran also spoke about India’s young talent, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, highlighting his remarkable skills. “He has shown great talent recently in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and performed well in various cricket tournaments. We’ve analyzed his gameplay and consulted players who have faced him in the IPL. We aim to keep things simple, implementing the right strategy at the right time against him,” he added.
Regarding the team’s preparation for the series, Zadran noted, “If you look at the team over the past few years, all players are quite fit. We have no injuries or issues. Everyone is in good shape. You’ve seen them playing in different leagues and at the international level. So far, fitness hasn’t been a problem.”
Zadran has taken over the T20 captaincy from leg-spinner Rashid Khan. He expressed confidence that Rashid’s strong rapport with the team will aid in making a fresh start in the shortest format, especially after their early exit from the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
“I was destined to have a captain like Rashid. Our communication and mutual understanding have been excellent. When he was the captain, I supported him as vice-captain, and we have a great understanding. We’ve played a lot of cricket here in India. We know the conditions and how to adapt our game accordingly. We’ve faced India in previous series and have also played in the T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup. We are well aware of the conditions and gameplay here. We just need to implement our plans effectively against the opposing team,” Zadran concluded.
