ACB Tightens Grip on Corrupt Police Officials

According to ACB officials, the accused ASI Jeevan Lal had initially demanded a total bribe of ₹10,000 to release two individuals — the complainant’s brother and nephew — who were detained at Chaurasi Police Station (Jhontri). The complainant had questioned the ASI about the detention, to which the officer cited an old scuffle involving one of the detained persons as the reason and demanded money for their release.

ACB Director General Smita Srivastava confirmed that the bureau had received a complaint and began verification on 26 July. During the verification, the ASI accepted ₹3,000 in bribe and agreed to take the remaining ₹7,000 later.

Trapped with ₹5,000 in Hand

Following confirmation of the bribe demand, ACB laid a trap on Tuesday, 29 July, in which ASI Jeevan Lal was caught red-handed accepting ₹5,000. He was immediately taken into custody, and the bureau is currently interrogating him for further details.

More Raids Likely

Officials stated that more raids and revelations could follow as the investigation progresses. This action highlights ACB’s ongoing vigilance against corruption in police ranks — particularly among those who, instead of helping the public, are exploiting their position for personal gain.

The incident also raises concerns over the implementation of DGP Sharma’s directives, which emphasized regular inspection of police stations and public-centric functioning. Despite the orders, such corrupt practices suggest a deeper malaise within certain segments of the force.
