Aam Aadmi Party to Focus on Local Elections, Challenges Congress in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, April 8: The President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, Isudan Gadhvi, announced on Tuesday that the party will not contest the Umreth by-election. Instead, AAP will concentrate entirely on the upcoming local body elections.

Gadhvi challenged Congress to face off directly against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated, “We will not participate in the Umreth by-election. Our focus is solely on local body elections. We want a direct contest between BJP and Congress, as Congress claims we are the B-team of BJP. If you can, defeat BJP now.”

During a press conference in Ahmedabad, Gadhvi claimed that AAP’s electoral activities have created a ‘crisis’ within the BJP, making it difficult for their candidates to connect with voters. He asserted that the BJP is no longer in a position to engage with the public, with leaders retreating during campaigns. In contrast, he noted that the BJP has emerged as a ‘center of hope and trust’ for the people.

Gadhvi expressed confidence that AAP will succeed in winning the mayoral position in Surat, citing the party’s work on public issues over the past five years in opposition. He announced that Manoj Sorathia will be the party’s main face in Surat.

He also accused the state machinery of being misused, stating, “It seems that it is not the BJP but the police that is contesting against AAP in the elections.” Gadhvi claimed that party workers and candidates are being intimidated, false FIRs are being filed, and there is pressure to withdraw their nominations.

He pointed out that there is neither a clear understanding nor equal legal action between BJP and Congress. Gadhvi also criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for presenting a derogatory image of Gujaratis while ignoring the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

On this occasion, Manoj Sorathia stated, “AAP will win in Surat and make it a world-class city over the next five years. People from various communities are uniting behind the party.”
