New Delhi, April 22 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Recovery Officer of DRT-I in Chandigarh for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 70 thousand from a complainant, the central agency said on Friday. A case was registered on a complaint against the recovery officer. The complainant alleged that he had submitted a bid in an auction for purchasing the Plant and Machinery. As he was the highest bidder, he deposited the total amount within stipulated time. It was further alleged that the complainant submitted an affidavit in DRT-I office mentioning that some Plant and Machinery were missing and requested that either all the remaining machinery be provided or get an amount equivalent to the missing machinery returned/refunded to him, said CBI spokesperson. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs two lakh from the complainant for settling his matter and getting his entire amount back. On request of the complainant, the accused had allegedly reduced the amount and asked him to pay the minimum bribe of Rs 70,000, CBI said. CBI laid a trap and caught the Recovery Officer while he was allegedly accepting the bribe from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused in Chandigarh and Lucknow which led to recovery of Rs six lakh, property documents and few incriminating documents. The accused was produced before the Court in Chandigarh on Friday. CM GK
