New Delhi, April 13 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday is set to interact with personnel of IAF, Indian Army, NDRF, ITBP, local administration and civil society, who were involved in a rescue operation in Jharkhand’s Deoghar, where a ropeway tragedy took the life of two person. The rescue operations were for nearly two days after on Sunday afternoon nearly 50 people were stranded mid-air as cable cars on the ropeway to Trikut Parbat stopped working due to technical snag. Tourists to and from the natural resort remained hanging in the trolleys for hours. The rescue operation in the Trikut Hills in Deoghar district was finally over on Tuesday after nearly 42 hours. The Indian Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibet Border Police, Indian Army and local administration were finally able to safely rescue a total of 47 persons. The cable cars were left dangling mid-air after a malfunction of the ropeway which saw trolley cars colliding on April 10 at 4 pm. The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and ordered inquiry into the matter. The court will hear the matter on April 26. The state government has to file a detailed inquiry report through an affidavit. Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla has also asked all states and on territories to review their ropeway projects and ensure that standard operating procedure, contingency plan for operation and maintenance, and systems for safety audits are in place.
