New Delhi, April 9 : The on Home Ministry on Saturday issued a notification identifying Talha Saeed, son of Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Jamat-ud-Dawa chief and Lashkar-e-Taiba co-founder Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, as a terrorist. A notification issued by the ministry said Hafiz Talha Saeed, a resident of Lahore, Pakistan, is a senior LeT leader and is the head of its cleric wing. The notification said LeT is listed as a terrorist organisation under the First Schedule of the UAPA and Hafiz Talha Saeed has been actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, planning and executing attacks by LeT in India and Indian interests in Afghanistan. “Hafiz Talha Saeed has been actively visiting various LeT centres across Pakistan and during his sermons propagating for jihad against India, Israel, ted States of America and Indian interests in other western countries… “The Central Government believes that Hafiz Talha Saeed is involved in terrorism and Hafiz Talha Saeed should be notified as a terrorist under the Act,” the notification said. Clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act empowers the Central Government to notify the name of an individual in the Fourth Schedule to the Act, if it believes that they are involved in terrorism. An Anti-Terrorism Court in Pakistan had on Friday sentenced Saeed to 31 years imprisonment in two separate cases. The global terrorist has also been fined a total of Rs 340,000. As per reports, the court further ordered confiscation of all his assets, including a Mosque and madrassa that Saeed had built. In one case, Saeed has been sentenced to 16-and-a-half years, while in another, he has been sentenced to 15-and-a-half years of imprisonment. Saeed has been under arrest since 2019 and so far, seven cases have been filed against him. AO ING
