New Delhi, March 23 : A Delhi District Court on Wednesday adjourned for March 24, the pronouncement of order on bail application of former Jawaharlal Nehru versity (JNU) student Umar Khalid, arrested under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the North-East Delhi riots. The protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens had taken a violent turn in February, 2020, leading to death of 53 people and injuries to more than 700. Besides Khalid, police has registered case against Activist Khalid Saifi, JNU students Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita, Jamia Coordination Committee member Safoora Zargar, former AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain and several others under UAPA on charges of larger conspiracy. The Counsel on behalf of Khalid had moved the bail application by submitting that the accused has been falsely implicated in this case and the prosecution has failed to prove the case against him. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, after hearing the arguments on behalf of the Prosecution and Defence, had adjourned the matter for pronouncement of order on March, 24. XC RJ
