Take off and landing at Bagdogra airport temporarily suspended

Siliguri, Mar 15 : Bagdogra international airport in north Bengal has been forced to temporarily suspend take-offs and landings after cracks appeared on the runway, forcing the authorities to reschedule flights or divert to other airports, officials said on Tuesday. Sources said the cracks on the main runway were noticed at around 11 am, and three flights landed safely at the airport, the gateway of North Bengal districts and neighbouring Sikkim state. The foreign nationals – Nepal and Bhutan – also use this airport. Sources said the menders, supported by the experts, began repairing the cracks on the runway, which is likely to be operational soon. Almost daily 27-30 flights arrive and depart with passengers ranging between 7000 to 10,000. The Airport Authority of India this week in a notification said the “Bagdogra Airport will be closed for operations from 11 Apr 22 to 25 Apr 22 due to resurfacing work of the final layer of the flexible portion of Runway.” PC RN
