9 killed in Jammu accident

Jammu, March 31 : Nine members of a marriage party were killed and four injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police said the vehicle “fell into a 300-feet deep gorge at Tararawali Bufliaz area of Surankote this evening”. “The vehicle was coming from Murrah village and headed towards Surankote. The driver lost control,” the police said The police and army with locals immediately launched the rescue operation and shifted the injured to the hospital. “Six persons died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital,” police added. The deceased were identified as Ghulam Rabani (55), Mohammad Fazal (60), Mohammad Mushtaq (63), all residents of Salyan, Fazal Ahmed (62), Gulab Din (36), both residents of Gurasi, Mohammad Jahangir (36), Mohammad Akbar (62) Abid Kohli (28), and Showkat Hussain (45), all residents of Dingla, Poonch. The injured included the driver of the vehicle Zaheer Abass of Gurasi, Anaya Shoket, Haroon, and Mohammed Zabir. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in a message said, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic road accident in Poonch. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of injured. Directed district administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured.” VBH ING
