Khargone (MP), Apr 11 : As many as 84 arrests have been executed thus far in connection with Ram Navami disturbances at this district headquarters. “Six cases were registered and the total number of injured is 27, including Superintendent of Police Sidharth Choudhary and five other law-enforcement personnel. Civilian Shivam (16) is critical and undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Indore. Mr Choudhary – who sustained a bullet injury – is stable,” Inspector General (Indore Zone) Rakesh Gupta confirmed. In the words of Collector Anugraha P, curfew was clamped on the entire town early Monday. “Examinations were postponed and no untoward incident has been reported. In the context of Sunday’s incidents, we received inputs regarding torching of more than 20 dwellings and in excess of half-a-dozen vehicles,” the bureaucrat said. Recounting the action, SP Choudhary said that he rushed to Sanjay Nagar on receiving an arson alert. “Amid the stone-pelting, I suddenly observed a sword-wielding youth running and pursued him. In the process, I hurt a thumb and his accomplice opened fire at me. The round penetrated below a knee and created an exit wound therefore surgery was not required,” the officer added. Violence occurred simultaneously in neighbouring Barwani district’s Sendhwa town. “Eleven cases were registered against numerous perpetrators and 15 accused named in the FIRs. Seven arrests were made. Two police personnel were among half-a-dozen injured,” SP Deepak Kumar Shukla said. “More than 50 unauthorised structures owned by the accused are being demolished by the administration in compliance with directives issued by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Home Minister Narottam Mishra. The loss caused by the rioters is being estimated and shall be recovered from them. Three contractual employees have been terminated from service and a fourth placed under suspension on the charge of spreading rumours,” Indore’s Divisional Commissioner Pawan Sharma told the press here.
