In Jammu and Kashmir, four persons were killed and nine others injured in multiple landslides at the Ratle Hydro Electric project in the Kishtwar district of Jammu division last evening.
AIR Jammu Correspondent reports that four persons including a police constable and an engineer were killed and nine others injured after back-to-back landslides hit a mega power project in the Drab Shalla area of Kishtwar district. Police said that a driver was working at the 850 MW Ratle Hydro Electric project in Drab Shalla when his excavator was hit by a landslide.
The driver got trapped under the debris and later died. A rescue team of around a dozen persons including police personnel rushed to the spot to retrieve the body of the driver when another landslide hit the project site and all of them got trapped under the debris. On getting information about the incident, a team from Police Station Kishtwar rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. Later the Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Kishtwar also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
Union MoS in PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also a Member of Parliament from the area, also spoke to the Deputy Commissioner on receiving the report of a fatal landslide. Nine persons were rescued and shifted to Community Health Centre (CHC) Thathri from where four were later referred to District Hospital, Doda for specialised treatment. Four dead bodies were recovered from the debris. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed deep anguish over the mishap. Army, SDRF and police are carrying out rescue operations. District Administration has been directed to provide all necessary assistance.
