4 girls drown in MP

Khandwa (MP), Apr 20 : Four minors met a watery grave early Wednesday when a group of about a dozen female pupils went to bathe at a canal near Kothi village in the vicinity of the renowned pilgrim destination Omkareshwar, police said. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the loss of life. The fifth-standard students were from Kothi’s Samvid Gurukulam Residential School and six of them were swept away but only two could be saved by people present there. Vaishali Nawal Singh (13) suddenly slipped into deep water and her friends plunged in one after another in an attempt to save her. Law-enforcement authorities rushed to the scene, divers were pressed into service and the corpses fished out. Other deceased were identified as Pratigya Chhamiya, Anjna Ramesh – from neighbouring Khargone district’s Sanawad and Bamnala respectively – and Divyanshi Chetan from Barwani district’s Rajpur.
