The PM Vishwakarma scheme is one of the government’s flagship initiatives aimed at providing extensive support to artisans and craftsmen engaged in traditional trades.
Under this scheme, artisans and craftsmen receive assistance through skill enhancement, modern tools, financial aid, digital facilities, and market access. The goal is to empower artisans socio-economically, strengthen traditional crafts, and ensure sustainable livelihood opportunities.
According to the government, a total of 3 million traditional artisans and craftsmen have registered under this scheme so far.
The invited beneficiaries represent 18 traditional trades under the PM Vishwakarma scheme. This includes tailors, carpenters, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, and locksmiths, among others.
Additionally, the invited beneficiaries have availed themselves of various facilities provided under the scheme, including registration, basic skill training, and toolkits, along with other assistance available through the program.
The ministry stated that the participation of PM Vishwakarma scheme beneficiaries in the Independence Day celebrations recognizes the contribution of traditional artisans and craftsmen to India’s cultural heritage.
