Mumbai: Director Zoya Akhtar marked the 17th anniversary of her debut film, Luck By Chance, which was released on January 30, 2009. On this occasion, she shared nostalgic moments from the film’s making.
Zoya posted old scenes and behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram featuring actors such as Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Rishi Kapoor, and Dimple Kapadia among others.
Reflecting on the film, Zoya wrote, “‘Luck By Chance’ 2009… Those were the days. This was my first film. We made it with great love. Back then, we still had prints; romance ruled the screens. My first hero was my brother Farhan. The sky was blue. Actors were friends who spent time together on set. It was a time of deep friendship and conversation. Akira was a child and Carlos was a child. Reema and I were unofficial co-writers. Nobody checked their phone in the morning. Life was a dream.”
The film, directed and co-written by Zoya Akhtar, explores the glitter and struggles of Bollywood through the story of Vikram, an aspiring actor played by Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma. Vikram lands a big break by chance, which comes at the cost of his personal relationships.
The film featured a notable cast including Rishi Kapoor, Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Juhi Chawla, Hrithik Roshan, Isha Sharvani, and Sanjay Kapoor. Despite its strong ensemble, Luck By Chance did not perform well at the box office.
Zoya Akhtar began her journey in Bollywood with films by her brother Farhan Akhtar, working as a casting director on the 2001 film Dil Chahta Hai and as an assistant director on 2004’s Lakshya. She received the Filmfare Award for Best Director for Luck By Chance.
