New Delhi, May 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of Dr. Zoram Aniya as a full-time member of NITI Aayog, according to a notification released on Saturday. This marks a significant achievement, elevating a prominent intellectual from Arunachal Pradesh to the highest level of national policy-making.
Dr. Zoram Aniya is a distinguished academic and an associate professor, also serving as a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Private Education Regulatory Commission.
With over 18 years of experience in teaching, research, and public policy, Aniya has made substantial contributions to educational and knowledge systems in the region. She is celebrated as the first woman from the Nyishi community to earn a Ph.D., and notably, the first woman from Arunachal Pradesh to obtain a Ph.D. in Hindi.
Her scholarly work spans literature, culture, and indigenous knowledge systems, including the authorship and editing of several books on the Nyishi language and cultural heritage, along with numerous research publications.
The second appointee, R. Balasubramaniam, is a member of the Capacity Building Commission (Human Resources) and has been closely associated with the Mission Karmayogi initiative aimed at digitally training India’s civil services.
He is also the author of “Power Within: The Leadership Legacy of Narendra Modi” and has played a vital role in developing the Karmayogi competency framework that guides capacity building in government training institutions.
His appointment comes shortly after the central government appointed Ashok Lahiri as the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog and included two full-time members.
Earlier in April, Lahiri met with Prime Minister Modi, just a day after taking office. Following this meeting, the BJP legislator from West Bengal and renowned economist shared details on social media platform X.
Lahiri has succeeded Suman Berry, who held the position since May 2022.
