Udaipur : Representing DAV HZL School, Zawar Mines, Zinc Football Academy has created history as their young team has convincingly won the Under-14 Subroto Cup Qualifiers held at their home ground Zawar Stadium, Udaipur. Competing against 12 best schools in the state, the team from Udaipur has now grabbed the honours to represent Rajasthan state in the 2019-20 Subroto Cup Nationals.
Zinc Football Academy footballers defeated Nirja Modi School from Jaipur 12-0 in the grand finale to come out as the unbeaten side of the tournament, after having scored a staggering 45 goals throughout the tournament. Playing as a forward, Jangminthang Haokip scored four goals in the final. Jangminthang Haokip was also the top scorer of the tournament with a tally of 12 goals in just four matches. Zinc Football Academy team also showed tremendous composure in their defensive duties as they didn’t concede even one goal in all the four matches.
Placed in Group D, Zinc Football Academy boys, all of whom are under the age of 14 years, defeated Little Flower Convent School from Jhunjhunu 12-0 in the first match, followed by another comfortable 8-0 win against Cambridge Court World School from Jaipur to freeze the top spot and book a semi-final clash against Mayur Chopashni, where they won 13-0.
With the Zinc Football boys already claiming the U17 Subroto Cup Qualifiers back in May, this Under-14 Subroto Cup win has come as the accolade for the hardwork and determination this Academy has put in to bring about a revolution in Rajasthan as well as Indian Football.
Conducted by the Indian Air Force, with support from India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Subroto Cup Football Tournament is the most famous inter-school football tournament in India. Started in 1960, the tournament hosts preliminary inter-school tournaments in every state of India starting from Sub-division, District and Division level culminating in the inter-school finals at the national level. The school teams, winning the state inter-school championships are then invited to participate in the main Subroto Mukerjee Cup Tournament at Delhi.
Suresh Kataria, Head Coach, Zinc Football Academy said: “I am proud of these young boys. Now both our Under-14 and Under-17 teams will be representing Rajasthan which is a massive responsibility, but we will be up for the challenge.”
